There needs to be a clear way to continue to improve and most importantly a reason to WANT to improve. In a lot of newer tycoon games, the only reason for progressing is to grow bigger and watch money go up. At a certain point, money usually becomes useless and all motivation for continued growth is gone.
An example from my second game: I made one sci-fi/simulation which got a rating of 6,25 or something - clearly medicore. Another sci-fi/simulation game made shortly after (not directly) got 8,5. The only difference was the person working on engine and A.I. The first guy had around 520 in tech, the second 720.
Similar playthrough progression of more employees, new consoles throughout the years, etc. It definitely more than scratches the GD Story itch, especially when you manage to get to the later years. Always lots of choices to make at any given time. While I personally prefer GD Story, you likely wont regret GD Tycoon. 2.
